Your files stay on your device. That’s the whole idea.

YOUR DOCUMENTS, YOUR DEVICE

A clear view
of local processing.

Folio does not upload documents or images to a conversion server. The browser runs the conversion code on the device you are using.

What stays in your browser

Selected file contents, filenames, document text, image pixels, editor comments, annotations, and processing options are used in memory for the current task. We do not send them to analytics, error-reporting services, or remote conversion APIs. No conversion endpoint, account system, or database is part of this website.

What the host receives

Your browser requests the website’s static HTML, JavaScript, styles, workers, and font assets. Like other static websites, those requests expose normal connection information such as your IP address, user agent, and requested website URL to the hosting provider. Avoid putting personal document information into tool searches or page URLs.

Local storage and downloads

Only your tool favorites and light/dark theme preference use localStorage. Documents are not stored in localStorage or IndexedDB. Downloaded output is saved through your browser’s normal download process. File results remain in the current page memory until you clear the task, navigate away, or close the page. Generated object URLs are revoked after use.

Security and limitations

Local processing reduces document transmission but does not protect a compromised device or browser extension. Review sensitive outputs. A visual signature is not a digital certificate signature; cropping is not redaction. Raster conversions lose text accessibility and interactive features. Research tools make no claim of security functionality.

Local image editing and exports

Image decoding, annotations, signatures, blur, pixelation, adjustments, encoding, and ZIP creation all run locally. Flattened image exports contain the final visible pixels and do not embed the original image or copy source EXIF/GPS metadata. Color profiles and HDR metadata are not preserved. Image-to-Base64 retains the selected original bytes for supported raster inputs, including any metadata already present; SVG is sanitized and rasterized first.

Blur and pixelation are visual effects, not guaranteed secure redaction. An opaque cover conceals selected pixels in the flattened result, but you must still review coverage. Editable .folio-image projects retain the original unblurred image, hidden layers, and comments. Do not share an editable project as if it were a privacy-safe flattened export. Hidden comments and sidebar-only notes are not included in exported raster images.

Keeping a task private

Clear the task when finished and use your device’s file and browser controls to manage downloaded copies. Closing the page is not a guarantee of forensic data erasure. This explanation describes the implementation and does not claim legal compliance certification.
