GOOD QUESTIONS

A little clarity.

What to expect from your browser’s document toolbox.

Do my files leave my device?+

No. Conversion code runs in your browser using memory, Web Workers, and Canvas. Documents, names, passwords, and extracted text are not sent to a conversion service. The hosting provider still receives normal requests for the website’s static assets.

Is Folio free to use?+

The available tools have no account, subscription, or payment requirement. Tools marked “In research” are listed as part of the roadmap and cannot yet process files.

Are all tools ready?+

No. Each tool has a visible status. Ready tools have automated output checks; experimental tools work with stated limitations. Research tools are not offered as converters.

Can I convert scanned or password-protected PDFs?+

English OCR is available experimentally and requires a careful review of recognized text. Encryption and decryption use local qpdf WebAssembly. Decrypt a password-protected file with your authorized password before using tools that do not accept encrypted input.

What are the file limits?+

Most PDF tools accept up to 50 MB per file and 120 MB combined; image limits depend on pixel dimensions. Audio workspaces accept up to 12 files and 32 MiB total, with limits on duration and decoded memory. Check each tool’s limits before starting.

Will the result look exactly like the original?+

Page copying generally preserves source page content. Raster tools create image-based pages and lose searchable text. Office and ebook conversions create text-first reading copies. Check the limitations on each tool and review your result.
